IHCantabria has participated in the Kick-off-Meeting of PORTOS Project, which took place in Oporto (Portugal) on 8-9 July 2019 at FEUP facilities (Facultade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto). Javier López Lara, Beatríz Rodríguez Fernández and María Fuentes Álvarez de Eulate from the Hydrodynamics and Infrastructures Group of IHCantabria, as well as Patricia Bueno Soria from the European Affairs Department of this institution have attended to the KoM and have presented the actions within the work packages they coordinate and participate.

PORTOS project is co-financed by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund. The main objective of this project is to develop and promote the implementation of renewable energy (RE), especially marine renewable energies (MRE) such as wave, tidal and wind energy, at Atlantic Area (AA) ports, as to impact two environmental priorities for ports: reduction of greenhouse gases emissions and air pollution by providing RE-based solutions to harvest the RE potential of AA coastal areas. Moreover, PORTOS aims to increase the ports energy efficiency, establishing a roadmap to a more competitive and sustainable sector, mitigating climate change. PORTOS will also improve the competitiveness of the AA region in the MRE market through the development, implementation and transfer of technologies and decision support tools. Three representative AA ports will be used as case studies and two other for testing the project results, which can be extrapolated to other ports.

PORTOS project will be developed by a group of 12 AA European partners: Universidade do Porto (UPorto, Portugal, coordinator of the project); Universidad of Santiago de Compostela (Spain); Ecole D´Ingenieurs En Genie Des Systemes Industriels (EIGSI, France); Universidad de Oviedo (Spain); University of Plymouth (United Kingdom); Instituto de Ciencia e Inovaçao em Engenharia Mecanica e Engenharia Industrial (INEGI, Portugal); Fundación Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de Cantabria (IHCantabria, Spain); Administaçao dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo, S. A. (Portugal); Autoridad Portuaria de Vigo (Spain); INNOSEA (France); University College of Cork (MAREi, Ireland) and Shannon Foynes Port Company (Ireland). Besides, 6 associated partners, also from the AA European region, will give support to this project: Organismo Público de Puertos del Estado (Spain); Agencia para a Energia (Portugal); Nantes-Saint Nazare Port (France); Cattewater Harbour Commissioners (United Kingdom); Padstow Harbour Commissioners (United Kingdom) and Wind Europe (Belgium).
