The conference highlighted initiatives on climate resilience and technology deployment, promoting the exchange of best practices and international collaboration to leverage solutions tailored to each country. From the use of AI to anticipate climate risks, to nature-based solutions to protect coastal communities.

The Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the Universidad de Cantabria (IHCantabria) strengthens its commitment to international cooperation in the field of climate technologies and regional collaboration aimed at water resilience. In this context, IHCantabria has participated in the NDE LAC 2026 Forum and in the capacity building workshops on the water-energy-food nexus, as well as the use of digital tools such as AI, drones and climate data systems to accelerate climate action, held in San Ignacio, Belize from May 19-22.

The forum organized by the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and sponsored by the Government of Belize brought together representatives from major international financial institutions, including the Green Climate Fund, the Adaptation Fund, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as experts, regional organizations and members of the network (CTCN).

On behalf of IHCantabria, Jesse DeMaria-Kinney contributed to the Forum’s activities and actively participated in the program’s capacity building sessions, which focused on strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the implementation of climate technologies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 2026 LAC NDE conference and the Capacity Building program provided an important opportunity for participants to review experiences from 2025, share lessons learned and best practices, and identify pathways to enhance collaboration in 2026 on climate technology in 2026 in alignment with regional, sub-regional and national priorities.

The Forum focused on three main objectives:

  • Presenting the latest developments in UN Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN) services available to developing countries in the region, while promoting the intra-regional exchange of experiences, technical assistance best practices and climate technology innovation relevant to LAC priorities.
  • Highlighting the connectionnbetween CTCN support and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), as well as Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs) and Technology Action Plans (TAPs).
  • Strengthening and expanding the regional network of Designated National Entities to support more effective cooperation and climate across the region.

IHCantabria’s participation in this event reflects its ongoing dedication to advancing climate resilience, supporting technology transfer and strengthening partnerships that contribute to sustainable development and climate change adaptation efforts throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
