Industry 4.0, bioeconomy and agri-food sector, blue economy and offshore industry, health and wellness, cultural industry and sustainable tourism are the sectors on which the Business Accelerator that the Ministry of Industry of the Government of Cantabria will focus its activity in the Renewable Energy Tower of the Environmental Hydraulics Institute Foundation (IHCantabria Foundation), in the Science and Technology Park (PCTCAN).

The tower will be renamed Xtela Building – acronym for eXperience, Mentoring, Push, Leadership and Acceleration – and will also be the headquarters of the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) and training activities, digitization of SMEs, entrepreneurship and business acceleration, as well as exchange of best practices with other autonomous communities.

This was announced by the Director for Industry, Tourism, Innovation, Transport and Trade of the Government of Cantabria, Javier López Marcano, after signing with the president of the Foundation IHCantabria and rector of the Universidad de Cantabria, Angel Pazos, the agreement for the transfer of the circular tower to PCTCAN.

Pazos highlighted that the signing of this transfer is “a very important step” that expires a “long and complex” process and that will allow the launch of an ambitious business acceleration program.

“The Accelerator should allow Cantabria to give a necessary boost in the creation and stabilization of new companies, especially in the areas most related to new technologies,” said Pazos, who has expressed the satisfaction of both the UC and the IH Foundation to contribute with this assignment to industrial and business development in Cantabria.

For his part, the Director for Industry has detailed that the Xtela Tower will be a modern and functional collaborative space in which large companies and startups can set new ways of working, and where new ideas can be scaled and supported, while offering mentorship jobs, physical spaces, specific knowledge and additional resources to accelerate their growth.

The Director for Industry announced that three leading companies in different industrial and technological fields, IBM, INDRA and ASTANDER, have already committed to mentoring through collaboration agreements with the Government of Cantabria, and more companies in other scientific, technological and industrial fields will join in the coming months.
