MaRINET2 opens 3rd call for free access to offshore renewables testing
MaRINET2 is a €10.5m Horizon 2020 funded project which supports offshore renewable energy R&D activities. It provides free-of-charge access to a network of 57 world-leading research facilities across Europe, through a series of competitive calls.
The first two MaRINET2 calls provided €2.3m of funding to 67 applicants. The third call will facilitate access to testing and research facilities for a new group of technology development teams, contributing further to the advancement of offshore renewable energy in Europe.
MaRINET2 Project Coordinator, Dr Jimmy Murphy, University College Cork said: “Europe is currently ahead of the pack, but it is not the only part of the world developing offshore renewables. Projects like MaRINET2 play an instrumental role in maintaining our leadership, by developing innovative technologies that can be commercialised on a global scale. The third MaRINET2 call is another important step towards achieving this and we look forward to supporting another set of projects in testing and improving their technologies.”
Christophe Maisondieu, MaRINET2 Access Coordinator, Ifremer added: “Europe is a pioneer in offshore renewable energy thanks to transnational collaboration initiatives such as MaRINET2. We are delighted with the continuing success of the MaRINET2 calls, which provide new opportunities for researchers and developers to work together, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and best practice across European research facilities.”
