IHCantabria has participated in the vICCE (virtual International Conference on Coastal Engineering) held between the 6th and 9th of October 2020

The Environmental Hydraulic Institute “IHCantabria” has participated in the vICCE conference held in online format between October 6 and 9. This is the first time that this conference, a world reference in the field of coastal engineering, is held in this format, after the postponement of the conference that was to be held in Sydney last September.

The technical talks were transmitted live and in pre-recorded formats, and the conference had 3400 registrations.

IHCantabria played a leading role after the participation of one of its members, Maria Maza, Juan de la Cierva researcher, as keynote speaker, with the conference entitled “Nature-Based Solutions for Coastal Defense: Key Aspects in the Modeling of Flow-Ecosystem Interactions”.

IHCantabria also participated presenting three papers in different fields.

Javier Lara, Director of the Hydrodynamics and Coastal Infrastructure Group, presented the latest advances in the modeling of wave interaction with structures integrated within the CFD tool, IHFOAM (ihfoam.ihcantabria.com).

Maria Maza, Juan de la Cierva Reseracher and member of the group of Hydrodynamics and Coastal Infrastructure, presented the results of a work in which new formulations have been obtained to quantify the wave energy attenuation provided by different saltmarshes, and thus estimate their coastal protection service.

Camilo Jaramillo Cardona, postdoctoral researcher of the Coastal Management and Engineering Group, presented a new shoreline evolution model. This model considers the integration of cross-shore, planform and rotation equilibrium-based expressions.
