This agreement has a duration of two years, with the possibility of automatic renewal for additional periods. A Cuban delegation traveled to Santander to participate in the signing ceremony of this agreement
The president of the IRIS Climate Foundation, United for the Climate (IRIS Foundation), Rudy Montero Mata, and the vice-president of the Fundación Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de Cantabria (FIHAC), Raúl Medina Santamaría, signed today a Framework Cooperation Agreement in the Board Room of IHCantabria. Representatives of FIHAC participated in this act and, within the Cuban delegation, Zulia Bárcenas Fonseca, director of the Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy of Cuba, of the Environment Agency (AMA) of that country, also attended.
The general objective of this agreement is to join efforts to promote environmental protection and adaptation to climate change in order to contribute to the sustainable development of Cuba and other Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The signing of this agreement allows the two entities to formalize their cooperation agreement and establish the basis for a far-reaching strategic collaboration -in the short, medium and long term-, which will allow them to jointly contribute to the achievement of some Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to the integral water cycle.
The agreement signed today establishes a series of key objectives, including the implementation of cooperation programs and projects focused on climate and environmental issues, the search for financing to carry them out, and the strengthening of integrated water resources management.
Representatives of the IRIS Foundation and FIHAC have committed to work together to achieve tangible environmental benefits and to contribute to improving the quality of life of local communities.
For FIHAC Vice President Raúl Medina, this Framework Cooperation Agreement “reinforces our commitment to work closely with the IRIS Foundation to develop and implement initiatives that contribute to the sustainability of the integral water cycle and the mitigation of the impacts of climate change in Cuba and other countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region”.
According to Rudy Montero Mata, “for the IRIS Foundation this agreement represents an important step in the efforts to address climate change and promote environmental sustainability in Cuba and other Caribbean and Latin American countries”.
