IHCantabria key to the University of Cantabria’s leadership in Marine Engineering according to the prestigious Shanghai Ranking

The Shanghai Ranking is a prestigious annual ranking system, which evaluates universities in fifty-five disciplines based on objective indicators of research, leadership and international collaboration, such as academic awards, highly cited researchers and high-impact publications.
The scientific excellence of the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the Universidad de Cantabria (IHCantabria) continues to strengthen the international positioning of the Universidad de Cantabria (UC) in the field of Marine and Oceanic Engineering. The prestigious international university ranking system Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025 has placed the UC among the top 100 universities in the world in this discipline, a result achieved mainly due to the solidity, rigor and global projection of the work carried out by IHCantabria.
For almost two decades, IHCantabria has built a scientific-technological ecosystem characterized by high impact research, knowledge transfer and the generation of innovative solutions to respond to the current challenges of coastal, oceanic and environmental engineering. The Shanghai Ranking, officially known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), is an annual ranking system of the world’s top universities prepared by Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. It is considered one of the most prestigious university rankings due to the objectivity of its methodology. In fact, it ranks more than 2,500 universities each year and publishes the top 1,000, among which is the University of Cantabria.
