IHCantabria hosted the awards ceremony for the graduates of the IX edition of the Master’s program in Coasts and Ports of the University of Cantabria.

The University of Cantabria (UC) held the ceremony to present the awards and prizes to the group of graduates of the IX promotion of its Master’s program in Coasts and Ports (CyP), in a ceremony that took place on Saturday, September 21, in the auditorium of the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of the University of Cantabria(IHCantabria).
This ceremony was attended by the Rector of the University of Cantabria, Ángel Pazos Carro; the coordinator of the C&P Master’s program, Mauricio González Rodríguez; the Director of the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Cantabria, Daniel Castro Fresno; the Director of the Department of Water and Environmental Sciences and Techniques of the University of Cantabria, Andrés García Gómez; the Director of Teaching and Training of IHCantabria, José A. Juanes de la Peña, professors of the Master’s program, the group of graduates and their families.
The closing conference was given by the Rector of the University of Cantabria, Ángel Pazos Carro, who inspired the group of students with his speech entitled: “From university to social leadership: the world needs you”.
The UC Rector’s message underlined the key role that young professionals will play in the future of coastal and port engineering, to overcome global challenges such as climate change, marine renewable energies and coastal risk management.
He emphasized the relevance of academic training to face these global challenges and encouraged the group of recent graduates to assume leadership roles in society and to apply the knowledge acquired for the benefit of sustainable development.
Mauricio González Rodríguez, who in addition to coordinating the C&P Master’s program is head of the Coastal Engineering and Management Group at IHCantabria and professor at the University of Cantabria, congratulated the group of graduates for their dedication and effort throughout this demanding postgraduate program, which has established itself as an international benchmark in the field of coastal and port engineering.
The group of students who have completed this edition of the master’s program is composed of highly trained professionals, who are now prepared to tackle the great challenges of the coastal and port sector.
Among the graduates are: María del Carmen Millán Roldán, Estefanía Giraldo Franco, Carlos Muñoz Toaboada, Laura Martín Ros, Alice Andrée Courte, Giuliana Fiestas Arismendiz, Felipe Espinoza Barraza, Marcos Carrasco Suárez, Emy G. Murillo Ortega, María Teresa Tisaire Puerto, Paula Torre Tobar and Leonid Lange.
About the Master’s program in Coasts and Ports
The UC’s Master in Coasts and Ports (CyP) offers specialized training that allows students to understand complex coastal processes and address challenges in the design and development of coastal, port and offshore infrastructures.
This advanced program also focuses on areas such as risk assessment and management in coastal zones such as erosion, flooding, climate change, oil spills, tsunami risk among others, opening doors to both the research and professional world.
This master’s degree is aimed at graduates in Civil Engineering, Marine Sciences and related areas.
Its objective is to train professionals and researchers capable of offering multidisciplinary solutions in the coastal and port field.
The training in this master’s program allows access to the PhD program in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Management of Aquatic Systems (IH2O), which is recognized with the Mention of Quality and Excellence of the Ministry of Education.
Its program is structured in learning modules, in which the most innovative tools and methodologies are taught and which have been developed by the research staff of IHCantabria, with the participation of companies and research, development and innovation (R&D&I) organizations.
During nine editions, this master’s program has trained more than 200 professionals from more than 20 countries in the last decade, of which more than 35% are foreigners, mainly from different Latin American countries.
