Biography

Farzad has joined IHCantabria as a researcher since 2020. He is a doctoral candidate in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology, and Aquatic Systems Management at the Universidad de Cantabria. He is working on her Doctoral Thesis focused on enhancing regional streamflow prediction techniques through Deep Learning and LSTMs.
He has years of experience as a research assistant collaborating with the Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute (SCWMRI) of the Iranian Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization (AREEO). He participated in National Scientific Research Projects, including “Drought Detection and Prediction; Risk Management Plans (Mitigation; Adaptation; Resilience Policies); Sustainability and Policy Making.” He was one of the Iranian National Drought Management Center’s main team members who provided the First Iranian Agricultural Drought Risk Management Plan.
After taking his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering (2004) in his hometown Isfahan, he obtained his M.Sc. in Water Resources Science (2009) from the Civil Engineering department of Sharif University of Technology, Tehran. His Master’s thesis subject was “Study of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources (Case Study: Karkheh River Basin).”

Besides his professional experiences in water engineering, he has years of volunteer background as a humanitarian social activist in Iran and the Middle East. He has worked with the united nations Human Rights and UNICEF. In 2016, he was honored as one of “the Young Elites of Tehran City” for nearly a decade of Volunteer Social Activities.
