Biography

Samuel Sainz Villegas is a PhD in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Management of Aquatic Systems by the University of Cantabria and a professional diver (restricted 2nd class) certified by “Centro de Formación Náutico Pesquera de Santander”. During his PhD, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ref.: FPU18/03573), he has developed hybrid distribution models for different macroalgae species to analyze the effects of climate change on its distributions.

Being biogeography and experimental ecology his main lines of research, he is currently focused on the study of marine macroalgae distribution patterns through the use of advanced statistical analysis and species distribution models. Along his career, he has been involved in several fieldwork projects, including both inter and subtidal areas, and laboratory tasks (e.g. macroalgal cultures, chemical analysis, physiology).

RESEARCH LINES

Marine seaweeds ecology.

Biogeography and modelling (SDMs).

Climate change impacts on marine biological communities.
