Biography

Raquel Zarauza graduated in Biology from the University of Salamanca, defending her final thesis “Soil microorganisms involved in the carbon cycle and their possible applications to reduce greenhouse gases”. In addition, during her training, she worked as a volunteer for sea turtle conservation at the Association of Volunteers for the Service of Protected Areas in Costa Rica, where she collaborated in research projects.

Specialized in Conservation Biology, she obtained her Master’s degree at the Complutense University of Madrid, where she defended her dissertation “Effects of global warming and rural abandonment on carbon dynamics in grasslands of the Sierra de Guadarrama”.

She worked as a project assistant in the Continental Ecosystems group at IHCantabria and is currently a predoctoral researcher. Her thesis focuses on evaluating how river metabolism varies under different global change scenarios, such as climate change, land use change and alterations in flow regimes due to the construction of hydroelectric dams.
