Biography
María Recio has a degree in Biology from the University of Oviedo and a PhD from the University of Cantabria. She completed her PhD studies at the Laboratorio de Modelación Ecológica of the University of Chile, within the International Mobility Programme “Pablo Neruda”.
She is a researcher at the IHCantabria, specialized in environmental management of littoral ecosystems. She obtained her doctoral degree with a methodological approach for the assessment of the littoral habitat conservation status (estuarine and dune protected habitats) in the context of the Natura 2000 Network. This work has been implemented in the Management Plans of the Sites of Community Interest in Cantabria, according to the Habitat Directive.
She has been involved in the design and development of sampling campaigns in littoral areas, especially for the collection of vegetal communities’ data (cartography of invasive alien species and/or protected communities).
She has experience in the application of different statistical approaches for the modeling of vegetal species distribution to estimate the current spatial extent of habitats types across broad territories and their projections to future. She is familiar with the use of remote sensing to define habitats mapping.
She has participated in several national and international (ONUD, EC) projects and published different papers in SCI journals and conference proceedings.
