MARÍA MERINO GONZÁLEZ-PARDO
Biography
María is M.Sc. in Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) by the Universidad de Cantabria with background in Environmental Sciences by the University of Cordoba.
Since 2011 she works at IHCantabria as coastal management expert with specialization in the management of international projects. Previously, she worked in environmental impact assessment and coastal flora conservation.
During the last eight years, she has gained broad experience in managing consultancy projects regarding coastal and disaster risk management funded by multilateral organizations worldwide. She has developed ICZM plans, vulnerability studies and Disaster Risk Management plans in several countries in North Africa, Middle East and Latin America as in Caribbean islands. Currently, she is also involved in a capacity building project on multi-hazard early warning systems in Asian countries. In these projects, María also promotes the development of capacity building activities and participatory processes enhancing the involvement of coastal stakeholders in the undertaking of decision-making.
In terms of publications, she is co-author of two papers and four conference proceedings related to ICZM, Maritime Spatial Planning and tsunami risk reduction.
