Biography

Professor at the Universidad de Cantabria in the area of Environmental Technologies. She has been Director of the Environmental Summer Courses of the Universidad de Cantabria (2001 to 2007) and Director of the Environmental Research Center (CIMA in Spanish), an autonomous organization of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria during the period 2008 to 2011, whose mission is to develop research and analysis of the environment and facilitate access to information and public participation channels necessary to achieve a model of sustainable development in Cantabria.

She is currently attached, since 2011, to the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of the Universidad de Cantabria, as a researcher and head of the Hydrobiology Laboratory, which, under her responsibility, has obtained the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC in Spanish) accreditation in the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard, in environmental testing and sampling of seawater and continental water (Nº. 111/LE2148).

 

LINES OF RESEARCH

Study of aquatic ecosystems (mainly estuaries) and specifically in phytoplankton ecology.

Primary production and factors controlling it.

T90 bacterial disappearance and water quality.

Identification and assessment of environmental impacts, characterization and management of marine sediments.

Information, public participation and environmental education.
