Biography

Her interest in studying the relationships between humans and science, technology, health, and the environment led her to develop a multidisciplinary and international academic experience. In the Department of Sociology and Communication at the University of Salamanca, in Spain, she obtained the title of Doctor −with the distinction of Doctor Europeus− and a Master’s degree in “Science, Technology and Society: culture and communication in science and technology.” In the Netherlands, she earned a Master’s degree in medical anthropology from the University of Amsterdam, and she also pursued studies in Bioethics at Radboud University Nijmegen. In Spain, at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), she studied the Master’s programme in Social media: Management and Strategy, and received the title of “Master’s Degree in Education and ICT” (eLearning), where she contributes as a collaborating professor. At the University of Cantabria, she obtained a Master’s degree in “Mediation and Conflict Management.” Previously, at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), she obtained two postgraduate diplomas: 1) in science communication and 2) in philosophical and social studies of science and technology. Her Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication, obtained in 2002, was recognized as the official Spanish title of Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

After training in physics and social communication, she decided to specialize in science communication and journalism, as well as in social studies of science and technology, more than 20 years ago. She has received various awards and recognitions for her level of responsibility and the quality of her work as a journalist and academic researcher. She has extensive work experience in both digital and traditional mass media and has also professionally collaborated in science museums (such as the NEMO Science Museum, in Amsterdam, and the UNIVERSUM Museum at UNAM, in Mexico) and in universities from Spain, the Netherlands, and Latin America.

She is the author of several publications on communication, outreach and journalism of science, health, and the environment. Regarding these topics, she has contributed as a consultant, speaker, professor, and university researcher. Her vocation and interest in making positive contributions to the planning of projects and activities in science communication and citizen science, particularly related to the efficient and sustainable management of the water cycle, motivated her to join the Communication team at IHCantabria.
