Lorena López Sánchez
Biography
Lorena López is the Head of Business Development and New Markets at IHCantabria. Lorena leads IHCantabria’s growth strategy, connecting its scientific and technical capacity with market demands. Her work focuses on identifying and developing new collaboration and funding opportunities, designing institutional positioning strategies and strengthening alliances with public and private actors at national and international level.
Lorena has developed most of her professional career in the private sector, in the infrastructure, Oil & Gas and water treatment sectors. She started her career in a reference construction company in Bilbao, specialized in water treatment projects for the public administration in Spain. Subsequently, he joined a renowned engineering company in The Hague (The Netherlands), where he participated in greenfield and brownfield projects for refineries and chemical plants in Belgium, Germany, France, China, Singapore and the United States. Later on, he assumed the leadership of the civil engineering area in a London based consultancy, managing design and infrastructure projects in multidisciplinary environments.
Throughout her career, she has evolved from technical functions – as a calculation engineer specializing in structural design – to leadership, team management and strategic development roles. As chief engineer, she led the execution of international projects in Mexico and India, coordinating technical teams and client relations. In her transition to business development, she has focused her work on connecting technical capabilities with real market needs, driving applied innovation and knowledge transfer.
Lorena holds a Master’s Degree in Coastal and Port Engineering from the University of Cantabria (2020), a Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK, 2016) and a Degree in Public Works Engineering from the University of Cantabria (2009).
