Biography

Laura Martín García holds a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Alicante. She complemented her training with a Master’s degree in Marine Ecology at The Arctic University of Norway, doing a semester of studies at Aarhus University in Nuuk (Greenland). Her master’s thesis, entitled “Sea ice diatom species-specific diatom growth rates in relation to different light levels”, was carried out in collaboration with the Norwegian Polar Institute.

During her time at the University of Alicante, she worked on a predictive model of return flows and collaborated in an ecological network modeling project. Subsequently, she worked on a research project at Aarhus University focused on the analysis of the photosynthetic activity of microalgae. Her time at The Norwegian Polar Institute allowed her to carry out studies on phytoplankton blooms with remote sensing. Later, she worked at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research classifying benthic faunal communities.

Laura is currently a predoctoral researcher in the Coastal Ecosystems group at IHCantabria. There she is developing her doctoral thesis in the framework of the PhD program in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Management of Aquatic Systems on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS).
