Biography

Esther holds a PhD in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Aquatic Systems Management from the University of Cantabria. She has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Oviedo and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cantabria.

Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher in the Climate Risk, Adaptation and Resilience group at the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria).

His doctoral thesis, entitled “Advances in climate risk assessment in critical infrastructures: a socioeconomic perspective”, focused on the analysis of risk associated with climate change impacts, with special attention to vulnerability and adaptation of critical infrastructures. More broadly, his research focuses on the study of climate risks, adaptation and resilience to climate change, integrating physical and socioeconomic dimensions in risk assessment.

In addition, he has participated in multiple consulting and transfer projects focused on risk analysis in infrastructure, including, among others, the development of the ADAPTARE tool for Ferrovial, his contribution to IFC Tools of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and his participation in the European project NATURE-DEMO, through the methodological development of screening tools aimed at improving decision-making.
