Biography

Ana de los Ríos has a degree in Biology from the University of the Basque Country and a PhD from the Universidad de Cantabria. Her PhD focused on the application of biomarkers for the analysis of the effects of pollutant discharges on aquatic organisms, as well as their inclusion in the assessment of the status of water bodies, within the scope of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CE).

She developed the experimental part of her PhD in collaboration with the Consolidated Research Group of “Cellular Biology in Environmental Toxicology” of the University of the Basque Country. In this period, she stayed in the “Systemic Physiological & Ecotoxicological Research Group” (University of Antwerp, Belgium) to expand training in multivariate statistical techniques applicable to the analysis and interpretation of environmental data.
