Biography

Álvaro holds a bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a master’s degree in Ecology from the Autonomous and Complutense Universities of Madrid. He started his research activity on the application of remote sensing tools to the early detection of invasive aquatic plants, as well as the elaboration of species distribution models.

After working on the field of environmental impact assessment, he joined the Freshwater Ecosystems Group at IHCantabria as an early stage researcher. His PhD thesis is mainly focused on the quantification, modelling and mapping of the structure, functions, biodiversity and ecosystem services of riparian zones, with a nature-based solutions approach.
