ABOUT US
IHCantabria
IHCantabria is a joint research institute that emerged thanks to the collaboration between two institutions: the Universidad de Cantabria and the Government of Cantabria, represented through the Fundación Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de Cantabria.
IHCantabria was created on March 22, 2007, World Water Day, when two research groups from the Advanced School for Civil Engineering at the Universidad de Cantabria, which had been engaged in intensive scientific-technical activity in subjects related to continental and coastal water engineering, combined into one.

Our Roots
Learn about our historyactivities
To achieve its objectives, the Institute engages in three types of activities: Research, Technology Transfer and Training.
- Basic and applied research, the purpose is to expand the frontiers of the state of knowledge of the sciences and technologies related to the water cycle and associated ecosystems.
- Technology Transfer, the purpose is transfer the achievements from basic and applied research into the integrated water cycle and pass them on to society for its benefit. This is carried out by setting up solid channels for transferring knowledge, methodologies and tools to government agencies and national and international companies.
- Training, the purpose is to teach and empower researchers, specialists and managers who, in the future, will have to address the sustainable development goals.
