MARÍA SUÁREZ
Biography
María holds a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo. After completing the Master in Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the Universidad de Cantabria (2014) she had her first contact with consultancy in the field of maritime climate as a fellow of the Santander-Crue-Cepyme program where she participated in the development of a Wave Atlas for Galicia in collaboration with MeteoGalicia.
After more than 4 years developing her professional activity in the private sector in Mexico, holding the position of coordinator of oceanography and coastal engineering projects and having participated in national and international projects such as Peru, Ecuador or Belize, mainly in the design of beach renourishments and numerical modeling of coastal processes, she finally joined the Marine Climate and Climate Change group of IHCantabria in November 2019.
She currently holds the position of technologist within the group, focusing on the implementation and development of wave downscaling methodologies under present and future scenarios (climate change projections), applying dynamic and hybrid techniques. In addition, she is actively involved in the generation, integration and statistical analysis of climate databases, especially meteo-oceanographic variables associated with waves, wind and sea level, as well as in the interpretation of their change signal for their application in climate services and coastal risk management in the context of climate change.
