Biography

Dr. José Joaquín Sainz Gutiérrez has studied and obtained at the University of Cantabria the Degree in Industrial Technologies Engineering and the Master in Industrial Engineering. He then began his research activity in the Department of Electronic Technology, Systems Engineering and Automation (TEISA) of the University of Cantabria, participating as a researcher in the project: Development of an autonomous system for the anchoring of structures for maritime works-SAFE. In 2023 he obtained his PhD from the University of Cantabria within the PhD Program in Industrial Engineering: Industrial Design and Production Technologies, receiving the Cum Laude mention and the international mention, having made a pre-doctoral stay at the University of Portsmouth (UK) in 2022.

After completing his PhD, he has continued to participate in research projects involving different classical and advanced control techniques related to the dynamic positioning of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). In 2024 he has completed a postdoctoral stay at the University of Portsmouth (UK) where research work related to ROV control and underwater vision has been carried out. In November 2024 he joined the Systems and Automation Engineering area of the TEISA department of the University of Cantabria as Assistant Professor. The results of the research work carried out during his research career are evidenced through the co-authorship of several publications in first level journals (JCR) and his attendance to national and international conferences.
