Itziar Caballero Pérez
Biography
Graduated in Biology from the University of León, she developed her dissertation on the response of Mediterranean ecosystems to forest fires and their recovery in the short-term. Specialised in ecology and environmental management, she completed her studies with a Master’s degree in Biology and Biodiversity Conservation at the University of Salamanca, defending her final thesis “Relationship between DBH of trees, acorn characteristics and germination in a population of Quercus suber in Valdelosa (Salamanca)” in 2022.
She worked for a year as a technologist in the Freshwater Ecosystems research group, participating in several national and European projects, and is currently working as a pre-doctoral researcher. Her thesis focuses on exploring the interactions between the structure, biodiversity, functioning and dynamics of plant communities in livestock and forestry systems, seeking a sustainable balance between the exploitation of natural resources and the reduction of risks resulting from these activities. Her research encompasses landscape dynamics mapping and modelling of risks and ecosystem services, as well as the incorporation of Nature-based Solutions in integrated watershed management.
