Gonzalo Hernandez
Biography
Gonzalo Hernández Romero holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Salamanca and completed a Master’s degree in Geoinformatics for Natural Resources Management at the School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering of the University of León. During his Master’s thesis, he focused on the “Analysis of the effects of land use and land cover change on the provision of ecosystem services and the implementation of green and blue infrastructure networks in the Cantabrian Mountains,” in collaboration with the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria).
His main lines of work are related to addressing natural resource management from a comprehensive perspective, employing computer programming, mathematical models, and remote sensing techniques. His activities include integrated watershed management, vulnerability and risk assessment to natural threats at different spatial and temporal scales, and the implementation of blue and green infrastructure networks through nature-based solutions.
He is currently working in the Hydraulic Engineering Group actively participating in different international projects. His primary focus is on the development of green and blue infrastructure networks (BGIN) with nature-based solutions (SBN), promoting the sustainability of ecosystems and communities through innovative and collaborative approaches. His commitment lies in continuing to promote the implementation of strategies that strengthen the resilience of natural systems and foster sustainable development with the environment.
