Daniel Depellegrin
Biography
Dr. habil. Daniel Depellegrin is a Ramon y Cajal researcher and former Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher in the Blue-Paths Project (Addressing Sustainability Transition Pathways in the Blue Economy). He is an international expert in the application of decision science for Maritime Spatial Planning, Blue Economy and Marine Socio-Ecological Systems Analysis.
Daniel has 15 years of experience in marine research, among others, at the Institute of Marine Sciences – National Research Council of Italy, at the Renewable Energies Group of the University of Exeter (UK, Cornwall Campus) and at the University of Girona (Spain). He has worked on several thematic research projects, such as FANBEST (INTERREG Atlantic Areas) – Funding Atlantic Network for Blue Economy Technology Transfer, MUSES (H2020) – Multi-Use of European Seas, PORTODIMARE (Interreg Adrion) – geoPortal of Tools & Data for coAstal and maRine Environment and PartiSEApate (Interreg Baltic Sea) – Multilevel Governance in MSP throughout the Baltic Sea Region.
This researcher ranks among the top 50 global scientific contributors in Maritime Spatial Planning and among the top 20 global contributors in Ocean Multi-Use. He is co-author of the European action plan for the Ocean Multi-Use.
Daniel Depellegrin has also acted as an expert at NOAA (USA) in the revision of the Aquaculture Opportunity Atlas of the Gulf of Mexico and Southern California. He is currently working on the development of a new generation of models for future marine spatial plans and the application of transition theory to sustainability, ocean planning and Blue Economy sectors.
