Biography

Buckle Subbiah Elavazhagan is a Marie Curie Predoctoral Research Fellow at IHCantabria from India, specializing in numerical modeling of coastal hydrodynamics and morphodynamics. An alumnus of Periyar Maniammai University, India, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2016. He furthered his studies with a Master’s degree in Coastal Management from Anna University, India, in 2018. Between 2018 and 2021, he was involved in different research institutes in India, working in various scientific capacities, including the National Institute of Ocean Technology, National Institute of Oceanography and National Coastal Research Center. His work focused primarily on understanding sediment transport processes and developing strategies to minimize the risks associated with coastal flooding and erosion through the application of coastal numerical modeling and field surveys. In 2021, Buckle received the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship to participate in the Water Science and Engineering program, specializing in flood risk management. This program was collaboratively coordinated by IHE Delft, The Netherlands; Technical University of Dresden, Germany; Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain; and University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. His thesis, conducted at the Marine Engineering Laboratory of the UPC, Barcelona, focused on the morphodynamic modeling of a low-lying barrier beach, examining the impacts of various storm scenarios and sea level rise. Currently, at IH Cantabria, Buckle is part of the SEDIMARE project where he uses the IH2VOF-SED model to evaluate the hydrodynamic and morphodynamic processes that govern the evolution of beach profiles.
