ARNAU GARCÍA TORT
Biography
Arnau Garcia, a graduate in Marine Sciences in 2020 from the prestigious University of Barcelona (UB) in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), continued his quest for knowledge by earning a Master’s in Coastal and Port Engineering from the distinguished University of Cantabria in 2022.
At present, he is deeply engaged in the captivating realm of coastal engineering and management, lending his expertise to projects aimed at assessing and safeguarding the invaluable coastal zones. His role extends beyond practical tasks as he is currently immersed in his PhD investigation, focused on predicting the equilibrium morphodynamic planform of beaches sheltered by submerged structures. To achieve this goal, he employs a comprehensive approach that integrates the precision of numerical modeling, the ingenuity of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques, along with laboratory experiments.
The objective of this ambitious research is to develop advanced models capable of predicting the equilibrium morphology that arises on such coasts under the influence of these structures. Furthermore, it aims to enhance our understanding of littoral processes and the overall management of future coastal risks, particularly in the context of the ever-changing global climate.
Research lines
Study of the morphodynamics of beaches associated with free-standing submerged structures and low crown levels.
Use of new Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and algorithms to predict coastline response and improve current numerical models.
Adaptation of pre-existing exempt dikes due to the rise in mean sea level (ANMM).
Study of modern tools for remote sensing and extraction of the coastline, through optical satellites and radar (optical remote sensing and SAR).
