LIFE ADAPTCALAMILLOR
WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
The LIFE AdaptCalaMillor project aims to boost the long-term climate change adaptation of the Mallorcan beach of Cala Millor, Balearic Islands, and increase the resilience of infrastructure, ecosystem-services and the socio-economy. This is an ambitious initiative for the period 2023-2027, which will focus on new methodologies based on science and governance to increase the resilience of urban beaches.
OBJECTIVES
LIFE AdaptCalaMillor will pioneer the planning and design of a long-term adaptation project through a participatory approach, including multi-level governance. The following objectives are envisaged:
- Identify the effects of climate change : Elaboration of a catalogue of possible adaptation strategies in Cala Millor.
- To increase the involvement of the local population: Governance dynamics will be applied for consensual decision-making.
- To promote the replicability of adaptation strategies: To serve as a model for implementation along beaches and regional, national and international urban landscapes.
The project “Participatory and multilevel governance process to design a transformed climate change adaptation project in Cala Millor beach from an integrated and multidisciplinary science-based approach – LIFW AdptCalaMillor” (LIFE21 GIC/EN/101074227) is co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
