The Environmental Hydraulics Instituteof the University of Cantabria(IHCantabria<\/a>) reinforces its commitment to quality education and continuing education ECCE-IH, expanding its offer of University Micro-credentials of the University of Cantabria (UC), official accreditation that provides added value, both academically and professionally. IHCantabria adds two new training itineraries to its ECCE-IH training portal within the framework of the Saja-Besaya<\/a> project: “Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change: the role of Ecosystems”, and “Specialization on Climate Emergencies: Floods”. <\/p>\n

Climate change poses increasingly complex challenges for land and natural resource management. Today we know that the solution does not depend solely on traditional solutions, such as the implementation of gray infrastructure. Nature offers us a wide variety of responses that have a much broader range of action. Nature-based solutions (NBS) are key strategies for reducing climate risks, as well as for restoring ecosystems and improving resilience to the effects of climate change. <\/p>\n

Therefore, the University of Cantabria has approved this new micro-credential on “Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change: the Role of Ecosystems”.<\/strong> A 100% online program, flexible and designed for professionals and students from a wide variety of disciplines, such as civil engineering, environmental sciences, geography, biology, physics and many more. <\/p>\n

The program focuses on the analysis and design of mitigation and adaptation measures at the watershed scale, highlighting the potential of Nature-based Solutions (NBS).<\/p>\n

The training pathway (5 ETCS) is structured in five modules, which provide specialized knowledge on: Climate risks and future projections; The role of ecosystem services in climate risk regulation; The design of mitigation and adaptation measures with Nature-Based Solutions; and, European and global policies and management instruments.<\/p>\n

Likewise, climate change is intensifying the frequency and magnitude of floods, making their management one of the greatest challenges for community safety and territorial sustainability. Addressing this challenge, the University Micro-credential on “Specialization on Climate Emergencies: Floods”<\/strong> has been developed ,<\/strong> which provides the conceptual framework necessary to characterize the threat of floods and their consequences. <\/p>\n

This training itinerary (5 ECTS), aimed mainly at students and professionals in civil engineering, hydrology, environmental management, civil protection and territorial planning, offers a specialization in flood risk assessment and the design of adaptation strategies, integrating scientific, regulatory and quantitative analysis fundamentals from a multidisciplinary approach.<\/p>\n

The program integrates six units in asynchronous format, providing knowledge on probabilistic risk analysis, hydroclimatic data processing, hydrological and hydraulic mathematical models, climate change impact, and typologies and criteria for the design and evaluation of mitigation measures.<\/p>\n

These training programs involve 15 experts from IHCantabria in climate change, coastal and inland ecosystems, hydraulic engineering and coastal and port engineering, who will guide the student’s learning throughout the duration of the courses, which will be completed with the development of a Final Project tutored by a researcher from the Institute.<\/p>\n

This training will enable the acquisition of skills to design sustainable strategies, integrating science, engineering and nature. A training that responds to the current and future challenges of our societies. <\/p>\n
