The Environmental Hydraulics Institute ofof the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria<\/a>), reinforces its commitment and contribution in the elaboration of the Assessment of Risks and Impacts derived from Climate Change in Spain (ERICC -2025)<\/strong> in the institutional presentation of the final documents held yesterday, December 11, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, in the Assembly Hall of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO). \u00cd\u00f1igo Losada, Professor of Hydraulic Engineering and Director of Research at IHCantabria, co-author of General Methodology, Climate Variables, Coasts and Marine Environment and Financial System and Insurance Activity, presented the methodological framework of the assessment at the event that brought together a large and diverse group of representatives from public administrations, academic institutions, private companies and civil society organizations. <\/p>\n

Consolidated scientific leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n

Promoted by MITECO through the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), the ERICC-2025 assessment is a national milestone in terms of adaptation. In the framework of this national assessment, IHCantabria has led the scientific consortium integrated by Tecnalia Research & Innovation and the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3). The consortium has acted as technical and scientific assistance for the development of ERICC-2025, promoted by MITECO through the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC). IHCantabria has coordinated the methodological and scientific coherence of the assessment, leading strategic chapters and ensuring the cross-cutting integration of the results. <\/p>\n

An exercise based on consolidated scientific evidence<\/strong>
ERICC-2025 is the first comprehensive assessment of climate risks carried out on a national scale in Spain. The document does not incorporate new models, but rather compiles, contrasts and synthesizes existing scientific and technical evidence, including previous studies, national and international projects and validated observational data, with the aim of offering a comparative, coherent and verifiable vision of climate risks, aligned with the public planning framework.
ERICC-2025 will be the technical and scientific basis for the second Work Program of the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (PNACC) 2026-2030, providing prioritization criteria and structured information that will facilitate evidence-based decision making. The work reinforces the positioning of IHCantabria as an international reference in climate risk analysis and management, as well as its commitment to science applied to the design of public policies.
Other members of the IHCantabria team also participated in the presentation, such as Javier L\u00f3pez Lara and Silvia Fern\u00e1ndez Rodicio, authors of chapters of the assessment, and Laro Gonz\u00e1lez Canoura, who presented the risk prioritization guidelines. <\/p>\n
