On May 7 and 8, the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the Universidad de Cantabria (IHCantabria<\/a><\/u>) and Biscay Marine Energy Platform<\/em>(BiMEP<\/a>) will host a new technical meeting of the project called “MARHIS Advanced ICTS Management System”(SEAS<\/a>), which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and by the State Research Agency.<\/p>\n

The development of this project is coordinated by IHCantabria and its objective is to optimize the management and coordination of the MARHIS distributed Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS), especially after its recent expansion to five nodes, including BiMEP<\/a> and Plataforma Oce\u00e1nica de Canarias(PLOCAN<\/a>). This double technical workshop marks a milestone in the collaboration between institutions, with the aim of strengthening the operational cohesion of MARHIS(Maritime Agregated Hydraulic Infrastructures<\/em>) and advancing the one-stop-shop model for access management.<\/p>\n

The first day will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at the BIMEP node facilities, with technical visits to the offshore test area and the energy exploitation area in Mutriku, on the Basque coast. On Thursday morning, representatives of the five nodes that make up this distributed ICTS (IHCantabria<\/a><\/u>CEHIPAR<\/a>, iCIEM<\/a>, BIMEP<\/a> and PLOCAN<\/a>) will present their technical and operational protocols, in relation to contact with users, project specifications, advice, testing and final reports. In addition, Agust\u00edn S\u00e1nchez-Arcilla, director of the Maritime Engineering Laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), will give an overview of the performance of the ICTS MARHIS in recent years.<\/p>\n

With the aim of acquainting the IHCantabria staff with the functioning of the ICTS MARHIS, all its research staff has been invited to participate in the activities programmed during the morning of May 8. The agenda for this day includes an institutional welcome, a guided tour of the institute’s facilities, technical presentations of each node and, in the afternoon, a visit to the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Cantabria.<\/p>\n

The SEAS project \u2500whose coordination is led by \u00c1lvaro \u00c1lvarez V\u00e1zquez<\/a>, head of the Hydraulics, Coasts and Offshore Laboratory Group of IHCantabria\u2500, seeks to strengthen the internal coordination of MARHIS through innovative tools and common protocols. Among the main achievements are the implementation of a pilot transversal access, the optimization of protocols, the strengthening of scientific-technical advice and the promotion of the visibility of the system, both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

With the meeting scheduled for May 7 and 8, the SEAS project takes another step forward in its goal of consolidating MARHIS as a reference infrastructure in Europe for research in maritime engineering, in the face of the global challenges of climate change and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
