The Environmental Hydraulics Institute of Cantabria (IHCantabria<\/a>) received yesterday an international group of 23 students of the Erasmus Mundus Master programme “Coastal Hazards, Risks, Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation” (COASTHAZAR). This visit was organized by Javier L. Lara<\/a>, head of the Climate Hazards, Adaptation and Resilience Group of IHCantabria, as well as coordinator of the Master, on behalf of the University of Cantabria<\/a> (UC).<\/p>\n

The students of the third promotion of COASTHAZAR – coming from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Turkey, United States and the Philippines – started their training this semester at the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Cantabria. The programme will continue at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (The Netherlands) and at the Universidade do Algarve (Portugal), following the international mobility modality, characteristic of the Erasmus Mundus masters.<\/p>\n

A global programme to address local challenges <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Erasmus Mundus COASTHAZAR Master’s programme, led by a consortium of European universities and coordinated by IHE Delft, focuses on preparing highly qualified professionals to address critical challenges in coastal risk management and climate change adaptation. Internationalization is one of the pillars of the programme, allowing students to train in different institutions and contexts, thus enriching their academic and cultural experience. The collaboration of European universities promotes excellence and the integration of knowledge, and in this sense, the programme reinforces the presence of the UC as an academic center of excellence and cultural diversity.<\/p>\n

An academic journey for high-impact professionals <\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to the current group of students, the COASTHAZAR programme continues to train students from previous graduating classes. The students of the second promotion, who started in September 2023, are about to start writing their Master’s Thesis in January 2025. IHCantabria will host 5 students as of January 2024. Likewise, the University of Cantabria welcomed seven students from the first graduating class -from Nigeria, Turkey, the United States, Jamaica and Indonesia-, who graduated in September this year.<\/p>\n

The growing presence of international students at the University of Cantabria, which currently represents 5% of its student body, reaffirms the university’s commitment to internationalization and the promotion of academic excellence. Erasmus Mundus masters, such as COASTHAZAR, not only stand out for their academic rigor, but also foster cultural exchange and the strengthening of European values in a global context.<\/p>\n
