This Friday, October 25, the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria) received in its facilities the visit of representatives of the Management Committee and territorial delegates of the Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS).<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the tour of this institute was the access to the facilities of the Great Tank of Maritime Engineering of Cantabria – Coastal and Ocean Basin (GTIM-CCOB), which are part of MARHIS (Maritime Aggregated Research Hydraulic Infrastructures), a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) distributed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain, unique in the field of hydraulic engineering. These facilities allow carrying out highly accurate experimental simulations for research in coastal, port and offshore engineering, which increases the ability to predict and mitigate climate and oceanic impacts.<\/p>\n

The objective of this visit, in which around 30 people participated, was to learn about IHCantabria’s most recent advances in research, training and technology transfer. The hosts of this visit were the Research Director of IHCantabria and Scientific Director of GTIM-CCOB, \u00cd\u00f1igo Losada; the head of the Climate Risk, Adaptation and Resilience Group, Javier L\u00f3pez Lara, and the head of the Hydraulics, Coastal and Offshore Laboratory, \u00c1lvaro \u00c1lvarez.<\/p>\n

The CCS is a public entity in charge of the coverage of extraordinary risks, such as floods, earthquakes and storms. Therefore, for the people from the CCS who were at the IHCantabria facilities today, this visit has been a strategic opportunity to explore possible collaborations in research projects that help to improve the capacity of the Spanish insurance sector in the face of extreme events. The studies carried out at the GTIM-CCOB -especially in relation to the prediction and simulation of phenomena such as tsunamis and large storms- are of great relevance for the Consortium’s objectives in the management of extraordinary risks and in the prevention of insurable damage.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, this meeting has served to strengthen the relationship between IHCantabria and the CCS, since it has allowed sharing scientific and technological knowledge to improve resilience to climate change and its impact on infrastructures and society.<\/p>\n

Characteristics of CCS and IHCantabria<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS) is a public business entity attached to the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, through the Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds. It performs multiple functions in the field of insurance, including those related to the coverage of extraordinary risks, compulsory automobile insurance, combined agricultural insurance and the liquidation of insurance companies. In addition, the CCS plays a fundamental role in mitigating the effects of natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes.<\/p>\n

Este viernes, 25 de octubre, el Instituto de Hidr\u00e1ulica Ambiental de la Universidad de Cantabria (IHCantabria<\/a>) recibi\u00f3 en sus instalaciones la visita de representantes del Comit\u00e9 de Direcci\u00f3n y delegados territoriales del Consorcio de Compensaci\u00f3n de Seguros (CCS).<\/p>

Uno de los puntos destacados del recorrido por este instituto fue el acceso a las instalaciones del Gran Tanque de Ingenier\u00eda Mar\u00edtima de Cantabria \u2013 Coastal and Ocean Basin (GTIM-CCOB), que forman parte de MARHIS (Maritime Aggregated Research Hydraulic Infrastructures), una Infraestructura Cient\u00edfica y T\u00e9cnica Singular (ICTS) distribuida del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovaci\u00f3n del Gobierno de Espa\u00f1a, \u00fanica en el campo de la ingenier\u00eda hidr\u00e1ulica. Estas instalaciones permiten llevar a cabo simulaciones experimentales de gran precisi\u00f3n para la investigaci\u00f3n en ingenier\u00eda costera, portuaria y offshore<\/em>, lo que aumenta la capacidad de predicci\u00f3n y mitigaci\u00f3n de los impactos clim\u00e1ticos y oce\u00e1nicos.<\/p>

El objetivo de esta visita, en la que participaron alrededor de 30 personas, fue conocer los avances m\u00e1s recientes de IHCantabria en investigaci\u00f3n, formaci\u00f3n y transferencia tecnol\u00f3gica. Los anfitriones de esta visita fueron el director de Investigaci\u00f3n de IHCantabria y director Cient\u00edfico del GTIM-CCOB, \u00cd\u00f1igo Losada<\/a>; el responsable del Grupo de Riesgos Clim\u00e1ticos, Adaptaci\u00f3n y Resiliencia, Javier L\u00f3pez Lara<\/a>, y el responsable de Laboratorio de Hidr\u00e1ulica, Costas y Offshore, \u00c1lvaro \u00c1lvarez<\/a>.<\/p>

El CCS es una entidad p\u00fablica que se encarga de la cobertura de riesgos extraordinarios, como inundaciones, terremotos y tempestades. Por tanto, para las personas del CCS que hoy estuvieron en las instalaciones de IHCantabria, esta visita ha sido una oportunidad estrat\u00e9gica para explorar posibles colaboraciones en proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n que ayuden a mejorar la capacidad del sector asegurador espa\u00f1ol frente a fen\u00f3menos extremos. Los estudios que se realizan en el GTIM-CCOB \u2212especialmente en lo relativo a la predicci\u00f3n y simulaci\u00f3n de fen\u00f3menos como tsunamis y grandes tormentas\u2212 son de gran relevancia para los objetivos del Consorcio en la gesti\u00f3n de riesgos extraordinarios y en la prevenci\u00f3n de da\u00f1os asegurables.<\/p>

Adem\u00e1s, este encuentro ha servido para fortalecer la relaci\u00f3n entre IHCantabria y el CCS, ya que ha permitido compartir conocimiento cient\u00edfico y tecnol\u00f3gico para mejorar la resiliencia ante el cambio clim\u00e1tico y su impacto en las infraestructuras y la sociedad.<\/p>

Caracter\u00edsticas del CCS y de IHCantabria<\/strong><\/p>

El Consorcio de Compensaci\u00f3n de Seguros (CCS) es una entidad p\u00fablica empresarial adscrita al Ministerio de Econom\u00eda, Comercio y Empresa<\/a> de Espa\u00f1a, a trav\u00e9s de la\u00a0Direcci\u00f3n General de Seguros y Fondos de Pensiones<\/a>. Desempe\u00f1a m\u00faltiples funciones en el \u00e1mbito del seguro, entre las que destacan las relacionadas con la\u00a0cobertura de los riesgos extraordinarios<\/a>, el\u00a0seguro obligatorio de autom\u00f3viles<\/a>, el\u00a0seguro agrario combinado<\/a>\u00a0y la\u00a0liquidaci\u00f3n de entidades aseguradoras<\/a>. Adem\u00e1s, el CCS juega un papel fundamental en la mitigaci\u00f3n de los efectos de desastres naturales como inundaciones y terremotos.<\/p>
