They are ecosystems that are vital for many species and offer numerous benefits, such as water purification and flood protection,” explains the coordinator of this training course, Mar\u00eda Recio Espinosa<\/a>.<\/p>\n ADAPTA BLUES stands for “Adaptation pathways to climate change through management and restoration of estuarine ecosystems<\/em>“. This is explained by Jos\u00e9 A. Juanes de la Pe\u00f1a<\/a>, director of Teaching and Training and head of the Area of Hydrobiology and Environmental Management at IHCantabria.<\/p>\n Product of the project<\/strong> European<\/strong> LIFE ADAPTS BLUES<\/strong>This training pathway allows you to develop the following skills professional skills and competencies<\/strong> necessary to design and implement nature-based solutions in estuaries<\/strong>This includes specific training on key principles related to estuarine ecosystem services, risk assessments and governance. The training will be given by specialized professionals from the Universidad de Cantabria<\/a>, IHCantabria<\/a>, the University of Coimbra and the NGO The Nature Conservancy<\/em>.<\/p>\n The training itinerary is composed of three<\/strong> Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)<\/strong>These are focused on the following topics: climate change related services provided by estuaries and estuarine ecosystems, and the tools available for their assessment (in the MOOC 1<\/strong>); risks associated with climate change in coastal areas and adaptation strategies based on estuary conservation (in the MOOC 2<\/strong>); financial tools to support the development of estuarine conservation and restoration projects (in the MOOC 3<\/strong>). In addition, a fourth hybrid course<\/strong> will be offered, which will be taught in hybrid mode (online and face-to-face) -from the Nilo Room at IHCantabria- and can be taken in both modes.<\/p>\n At the end of this training itinerary, once the partial and final tests<\/em> of the complete program have been taken and passed, a Specialization Diploma <\/strong>will be awarded. Those who wish to be trained in a single course should register directly in the MOOC of their interest and, once passed, will receive their Certificate of Completion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The call for this training itinerary is aimed at undergraduate, graduate and vocational training students, professionals with an environmental profile, government technicians and all those who wish to acquire knowledge and skills on the use of new methodologies to enhance the conservation of estuarine ecosystems and their adaptation to climate change.<\/p>\n The videos of these courses are recorded in English -with subtitles in Spanish, Portuguese, German and English-, and will be available through the ECCE-IH Training Portal, from where it is possible to apply for enrollment.<\/p>\n International relevance of the European project LIFE ADAPTA BLUES<\/strong><\/p>\n This project was launched in 2019, under the coordination of IHCantabria and with co-financing from the LIFE program of the European Union, carrying out actions in the following regions: Coimbra (Portugal), Cantabria (Spain) and Zeeland (The Netherlands). It is based on the premise that estuarine ecosystems throughout Europe are under increasing pressure due to the intense economic and urban development of the coastline and the high population living in these areas. Therefore, these areas are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n This project proposes to raise public awareness of the role of conservation and restoration of estuarine ecosystems as a necessary measure to address mitigation and adaptation to the impacts of climate change in the coastal areas of the European Atlantic, while enhancing our natural heritage.
