box_shadow_vertical_tablet=&#8221;0px&#8221; box_shadow_blur_tablet=&#8221;40px&#8221; box_shadow_spread_tablet=&#8221;0px&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]Research staff of the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (<a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/en\/\">IHCantabria<\/a>) celebrates the successful completion of the OASYS (Offshore Advanced simulation SYStem) project, which generated a relevant national and international knowledge ecosystem around the development of a professional simulation model for floating wind platforms.<\/p>\n<p>This project, developed between December 1, 2021 and November 30, 2023, was funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the State Research Agency and the European Union &#8211; Next Generation EU\/Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of this project was to generate an ecosystem of numerical knowledge specifically oriented to the floating offshore wind engineering market, in order to create a set of new professional services, susceptible of being transferred to the industry, and to open new lines of research and technology transfer.<\/p>\n<p>IHCantabria plans to implement the numerical model obtained with the OASYS project and to couple it for professional use. For this purpose, the contribution of the capabilities and scientific-technical experience acquired by this institute over more than 10 years will be taken into account. Therefore, this project complements the consolidated scientific-technological offer of this institute in the field of floating offshore wind energy. The OASYS project is a flagship project for IHCantabria because of its transfer strategy based on software for professional use, its contribution to the creation of new lines of research and complementary training plans.<\/p>\n<p>The team that contributed to the development of this project was led by  <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/en\/staff-directory\/raul-guanche-garcia\/\">Ra\u00fal Guanche<\/a>, as head of the Offshore Engineering and Marine Energy Group of IHCantabria, a group to which the other researchers of the project belong:  <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/directorio-personal\/investigador\/sergio-fernandez-ruano\/\">Sergio Fern\u00e1ndez Ruano<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/directorio-personal\/tecnologo\/javier-sarmiento\/\">Javier Sarmiento Mart\u00ednez<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/directorio-personal\/tecnologo\/lucia-meneses\/\">Luc\u00eda Meneses Aja<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/directorio-personal\/tecnologo\/alvaro-rodriguez\/\">\u00c1lvaro Rodr\u00edguez Luis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ihcantabria.com\/directorio-personal\/tecnologo\/miguel-somoano\/\">Miguel Somoano Rodr\u00edguez<\/a> and Pablo Garc\u00eda P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relevance and background of the OASYS project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The OASYS project has contributed significantly to improving the understanding of the dynamics of critical elements on floating platforms. With the development of the models obtained at the end of this project, the calculation capabilities of non-linear effects such as: non-linear excitation of incident waves, instantaneous position, quadratic transfer functions (QTF), modeling of oscillating water columns in floating bodies or interaction of the mooring system with irregular bathymetry have been improved. This makes the OASYS software a unique model by combining multiple specific capabilities of other software packages into one and thus being able to simulate their concomitant effect. OASYS software has been successfully transferred to relevant companies in the industry for professional application.<\/p>\n<p>The OASYS project constitutes the natural evolution of the ACOPLE project (Analysis of Dynamic COmporting of Floating Wind Platforms for Design Optimization in Deep Water), which emerged in 2017 as a response to the scientific-technological needs evidenced in the field of floating offshore wind energy.
