At the end of last week, the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria, <\/a>by its acronym in Spanish) received the final report of a project carried out with three Korean companies that make up the Virnect Consortium, with which this institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a cooperation agreement, <\/a>on July 4 of 2023, to develop a digital twin based on the use of information and communication technology (ICT); in addition to applying augmented reality (AR) technology and building a Metaverse platform for IHCantabria.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On behalf of the company Virnect, Kyung Man Kim acts as general manager of the project called “Establishment of Metaverse Technology based Digital Twin Service Platform at IHCantabria<\/strong>“. This project is the result of a new vision for the deployment of Korean ICT technology worldwide and has been sponsored by the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA<\/a>). Its execution period has lasted 7 months, from May 1 to November 30, 2023.<\/p>\n

This project was developed by three Korean companies -Virnect<\/a>, GS ITM<\/a> and The Pict Inc. <\/a>Collectively, these three companies make up the Virnect Consortium. For the development of this project, each company has focused on its area of \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bspecialty, in relation to the digital cloud (GS ITM<\/a>), Augmented Reality\/digital twin (VIRNECT<\/a>) and the Metaverse (The Pict Inc.).<\/p>\n

IHCantabria has contributed to this project with its experience in the use of large facilities, in order to facilitate the implementation of ICT tools in the study, design and development of experiments related to the coast, ports and offshore engineering.<\/p>\n

After verifying the registration of AR content and demonstrating the operation of the metaverse platform and the AR tool, which includes images and information on some IHCantabria sites, Kyung Man Kim (principal consultant of Virnect Co., Ltd.) presented the final report of the project.<\/p>\n

The Korean delegation that visited IHCantabria at the end of last week included several representatives of the Virnect Consortium. Representing Virnect Co. Ltd. were Kyung Man Kim (General PM), Minsik Oh (Team leader) and Jisoo Kim (Manager of the Solution Center, at the Content Design Team). Representing GS ITM, Haksung Kim (Team leader) and Sahong Lee (Manager) attended. The Pict Inc. also sent two representatives: Min Jae Joo (CKO) and Ye Rim Ko (PM).<\/p>\n

IHCantabria<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria) is a joint research institute focused on the integrated management of socio-ecological systems associated with water.
