Within the framework of the PORTOS project, funded by Interreg Atlantic Area, novel marine renewable energy technologies will be tested in several experimental facilities in the Atlantic Area. In March 2020, a call for applications was issued for Atlantic Zone countries inviting technologists to submit applications for review by an independent selection panel.<\/p>\n

The application and evaluation process was managed by the University College Cork (MaREI), Ireland. We are pleased to announce the seven selected projects. Each technology will be tested for two weeks at the facility along with the successful partner companies listed below:

– University of Plymouth (UoP), England: Pytheas Technology and Bluenewables
– Universidad de Oviedo (UNIOVI), Spain: Asturmadi Reneergy, S.L.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to the selected projects and thanks to all the applicants who took the time to submit their projects. Testing is expected to take place between August 2020 and March 2021.<\/p>\n

About the PORTOS Project<\/strong><\/p>\n

PORTOS (Ports Towards Energy Self-Sufficiency) aims to promote the use of wave, tidal and wind energy in Atlantic Area ports in order to contribute to two environmental priorities: the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution by providing renewable energy-based solutions to harness the renewable energy potential of Atlantic Area coastal areas.<\/p>\n

PORTOS also aims to evaluate, develop and promote the integrated use of renewable energy resources in the ports of the Atlantic Zone and increase their energy efficiency, establishing a roadmap for a more competitive and sustainable sector.<\/p>\n
