Researchers of IHCantabria will collaborate with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), in a feasibility study for the development of a tool to support the Member States of the European Union on the capacity to act in response to oil spills at sea.<\/p>\n

On January 12, the kick- off meeting took place online, with the participation of the Oceanography, Estuaries and Water Quality groups and the members of the Information Technologies Laboratory of IHCantabria, together with members of EMSA and INTECOASTUR. Experts of the three institutions are already working on this process, making official the start of the EMSATOIL project.<\/p>\n

The objective of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), is to develop a tool to assist Member States in the process of preparation and operational to mobilize resources in response of oil pollution at sea, in order to provide a quick and effective response. For this, the researchers involved in the project will gather information on existing tools to understand the functionalities and limitations to understand the functionalities and limitations and to propose improvement aspects in the functional and non-functional framework of the tool design.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to IHCantabria\u2019s long experince with more than twenty years working in the development of methodology and tools to fight accidental pollution at sea, we are leading the EMSATOIL project. This project aims to analyze whether the software required by EMSA with the functionalities it needs is feasible, and to develop a tool that is as robust and effective as possible”, explains the researcher Ana Julia Abascal.<\/em><\/p>\n

The EMSATOIL project will contribute to analyze in what way the desired functionalities are technically feasible for the development of a practical, robust and effective tool in the operations developed by EU Member States in case of oil spills at sea.<\/p>\n
