Dr. H\u00e9ctor Lobeto Alonso is a postdoctoral researcher at IHCantabria. H\u00e9ctor holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de Cantabria (2010-2014); a Master in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de Cantabria (2014-2016) and a Master in Coastal and Port Engineering from the Universidad de Cantabria (2016-2017). He received the Extraordinary End of Degree Award for the Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and for the Master’s Degree in Coastal and Port Engineering. She started her PhD in the academic year 2017-2018 in the PhD programme in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Management of Aquatic Systems (IH2O), funded by an FPU contract. During his doctoral thesis, H\u00e9ctor completed a pre-doctoral stay at the UNESCO-IHE Delft centre in the Netherlands. His thesis, entitled “Study of climate variability of marine surface dynamics: extremes and effect of climate change”, defended in September 2022, was awarded cum laude distinction and international mention. In addition, the thesis was recently recognised by the Specialised Group of Physics of the Atmosphere and Ocean (GEFAO) of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics (RSEF) as the best doctoral thesis in Oceanography Ocean Physics and the best doctoral thesis in Physics of the Atmosphere and Ocean.<\/p>\n
His research focuses on the study of marine surface dynamics and, in particular, wave and sea level dynamics, with special interest in the analysis of extreme events and the effect of climate change on them.<\/p>\n
