Biography

Itxaso has a degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de Cantabria, a MEng, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

During her thesis, she proposed global wave climate frameworks for the near and far future, classifying their wave climate into types with Big-Data approaches. She was a visiting researcher at Disaster Prevention Research Insititute-Kyoto Universtiy, where she focused on wave climate projections for the end of the century.

Her lines of research link the large-scale climate dynamics with regional and local coastal processes. She studies the role of natural variability and climate change in coastal hazards and impacts. Furthermore, she focuses on coastal adaptation solutions based on ecosystems or mimic strategies found in nature.
