Integrated Watershed Management

The knowledge of the hydrological regime and the monitoring of the temporal evolution of fluvial morphodynamics are of crucial importance in trying to establish the dependence between the hydrological characteristics and the erosive-sedimentary dynamics of a fluvial section.

Similarly, the coupling of water quality monitoring systems to the above systems provides a very important database, which allows studying the dependence between biogeochemical patterns and physical processes.

At IHCantabria we have experience in the application of methods for monitoring flows, sediment dynamics and different variables of water quality.

Continuous measurements are made using systems with or without communication to the workplace, depending on the needs and possibilities of installation.

At IHCantabria we are currently working on different research projects, with various organizations and private companies, which are allowing it to develop new facilities and monitoring systems. Among them, it is worth mentioning the flow measurement systems by means of image processing, where there are monitoring elements (cameras) and specific software for interpreting the signal, developed by IHCantabria.
