Biography

Pedro is a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at the Universidad de Cantabria, as well as a researcher attached to the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics. He holds a PhD from the University of Cantabria, as well as a degree in Civil Engineering and Economics.

After years of intensive dedication to management and teaching, he joined IHCantabria in 2008, joining the Climate Change group and actively collaborating with the energy and coastal and port engineering groups.

During this time he has had the opportunity to participate in European research projects (such as Theseus, Mermaid, Maribe and Clic-up) and national projects (such as Acuatic, CONSOLIDER, C3E) as well as in large international transfer projects led by the World Bank, Joint Research Center of the EU (JRC), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America (UNEP-ECLAC). In some of these projects it has acted as PI.

Working in a multidisciplinary team has provided an opportunity to contribute to the economic conceptualisation of technical problems, as well as to methodological integration by exploiting synergies between the different groups and by exploiting the advantages of the systematic application of economic concepts to technical issues. The main contributions made have focused on the rigorous treatment, from the point of view of allocative efficiency, of the technical and natural problems studied in each case and their application to the determination of optimal technical solutions. The integration of the disciplines of sectoral economics, economic evaluation and environmental and natural resource economics has allowed the establishment of lines of collaboration with the high-level research carried out at the Institute.
