Alexia María González Ferreras holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of León and a Masters in Environmental Management of Water Systems from the Universidad de Cantabria. Since 2012 she has been a researcher at IHCantabria, where she is currently developing her doctoral thesis, financed with a predoctoral grant from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Reference: BES-2013-065770).

Her research focuses on the study of spatial patterns of biophysical characteristics in river networks and the study of fish populations and communities, with several scientific publications and papers at international conferences on the subject. She has participated in different research projects and management of continental ecosystems, both national and international.

She is a member of the Iberian Association of Limnology and has participated in several collaborative science projects.
