Coastal Ecology

The analysis of the composition, structure and function of aquatic communities is one of IH Cantabria's main areas of interest, with experts studying the different biological groups (macroalgae, invertebrates, marine phanerogams, estuarine vegetation and phytoplancton). IH Cantabria has also carried out an great amount of work to improve the state of the art on biogeographical, hydro and geo morphological habitat characterization, both in intertidal and subtidal areas as wella s in the implementation of potential habitat modelling.

Amongst the the most advanced research lines currently being developed at IH Cantabria we find the field and lab testing of biophysical interactions (saline "shock", wave-current interaction, flood levels, etc. ) a task which is greatly improved due to the synergies  present between IHLab Bio and  IHLab-Hidro.
