Ana de los Ríos received her Master's degree in Biology by the University of the Basque Country and then began her PhD in the department of "Sciences and Techniques of the Water and the Environment" of the University of Cantabria. During the first phase of her pre-doctoral formation she studied physical and chemical features of littoral water bodies and  worked in aquatic monitoring actions carried out within the context of the Water Framework Directive implementation (2000/60/EC). After having obtained the Certificate of Advanced Studies she began her training on biomarker analyses with marine organisms at the group of "Cell Biology in Environmental Toxicology" at the University of the Basque Country.

At the moment she is in the final stage of her international PhD, which has  focused on the analysis of biological effects caused by urban, industrial and harbor discharges, as well as in the description of methodologies suitable for the evaluation of each type of discharge.

Cristina Galván is a graduate in Biology from the University of Oviedo and she has a Master's Degree in Environmental Management of Water Systems by the University of Cantabria. She is a PhD student at the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of Cantabria. Her areas of research focus on the ecology of estuarine systems, from physical aspects to the biology of the species, and in the development of ecological classification systems, from global regions to habitats. She works with numerical modeling, advanced statistical and biological experimentation. Cristina participates in various types of projects, from the monitoring of environmental restorations and the implementation of European directives to the evaluation of the climate change effects on the coast.

Arantza Iturrioz es investigador predoctoral en el IH Cantabria.

Arantza Iturrioz estudió Ingeniería de Caminos, Canales y Puertos en la Universidad de Cantabria (2002-2008) y posteriormente el Máster en Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos (2008-2010). En el año 2009 desarrolló parte de su actividad investigadora en en el departamento de ingeniería oceánica de la universidad de Rhode Island, en el ámbito de las energías renovables marinas: energía undimotriz. Desde el año 2010 Arantza desarrolla su tesis doctoral en el IH Cantabria, la cual se centra en la energía undimotriz basada en la tecnología de Columna de Agua Oscilante.

Jara Martínez is a Civil Engineer and she holds a Master's Degree in Coastal and Harbor Engineering (University of Cantabria). During her studies she was awarded  the "Javier Martínez Maurica" mathematical contest award in several editions and the Science and Water and Environmental Techniques Department Prize (CYTAMA).
After a few years developing her career in the private consultancy sphere, mainly as project manager at KV consultores, she has taken part in more than thirty works related to Maritime Engineering and she has participated in several working groups of the Spanish branch of PIANC (ATPYC).
In 2008 she joined IH Cantabria, where she has already worked in different fields such as coastal structure stability, feasibility of port operations, climate change effects on coastal areas and littoral dynamics. Also, she regularly contributes to the development of tools and methodologies regarding wave propagation and coastal management while  working on her PhD Thesis.

María Maza es una alumna de doctorado del IH Cantabria que centra su investigación en el modelado numérico CFD.

Tras obtener el título de Ingeniero Técnico de Obras Públicas en la Universidad de Cantabria en 2007, continuó sus estudios en la misma universidad dentro de un programa de intercambio de excelencia con la Universidad de Cornell (NY,USA) y en 2010 finalizó sus estudios de Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos. Tras graduarse realizó el Master Universitario en Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos de la Universidad de Cantabria presentando en febrero de 2012 su trabajo fin de máster de investigación titulado: "Estudio hidrodinámico del comportamiento de la Posidonia oceánica frente a la acción del oleaje".

Su investigación en la ingeniería de costas se inició en el curso 2009-2010 cuando disfrutó de una beca de colaboración del Ministerio de Educación por la cual pudo comenzar a participar dentro del IH Cantabria en labores de investigación. Una vez finalizados sus estudios universitarios pasó a ser becario de apoyo de la investigación de la Universidad de Cantabria a tiempo completo compaginando dicha tarea con los estudios de máster. Su investigación hasta el momento se ha centrado en el estudio de la interacción del oleaje con vegetación sumergida y emergida caracterizando la atenuación de energía que produce en el flujo dicha interacción así como las fuerzas que sufren las plantas y utilizando modelos RANS para modelar dichos procesos. Asimismo dicha tarea se ha complementado con estudios experimentales y actualmente su línea de investigación principal se centra en el estudio de impactos aireados de olas rotas sobre estructuras monolíticas y la implementación de dichos procesos en modelos RANS.

Luis Pedraz has a degree in Geography from the University of Cantabria (2004) and a certificate as Senior Technical Application Development (2005) offered by CESTE. He has worked at several private sector companies focusing on Web application development, data analysis and modeling in GIS environments.

Since 2008 Luis works in the area of Technology Transfer at the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics within the IT department.

Erica Pellón de Pablo has a degree in Civil Engineering since 2011, by the University of Cantabria. In 2006 she was awarded  the Gold Medal in the IX Olympics of Technical Drawing at the University of Cantabria. In 2012 she obtained theScience and Water and Environmental Techniques Department Prize (CYTAMA).

During the  summer of 2010 she began working at IH Cantabria in the Pipelines and Environmental Hydraulics area. In this period she participated on water quality and pipelines design projects.

During 2010-11 she obtained a collaboration grant with IH Cantabria. Under this grant she started her work on beach morphodynamics and the data analysis of video imagery systems. At the end of 2011 she obtained a new grant, which allows her to continue her research on coastal zones morphodynamics.

Nowadays she combines her work as a predoctoral researcher with her studies in the Master of Harbours and Coastal Zones Engineering, which is part of the formation period of the Ph.D. in Sciences and Technologies for the Coastal Management.
