María Merino

María Merino is MSc in Integrated Coastal Zone Management by the University of Cantabria with background in Environmental Sciences. She has more than 5 years of experience in international projects related the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and environmental spatial planning. She has also collaborated in the organization of professional courses and graduate programs on environmental hydraulics, being in charge of the Capacity Building Unit of IH Cantabria (2010/2014).
 
She carried out relevant tasks in the development of ICZM Plans in Egypt, specifically in the Marsa Matruh – El Sallum ICZM Plan (2007/2011) and in the Mariut Lake and Valley ICZM Plan (2013/2015), as technical coordinator. She also participated in the Development of Environmental  Zoning and Action Guidelines for the Management of Coastal Resources of El Salvador (2013/2014). In these international projects, she has promoted the involvement of coastal stakeholders into the decision-making processes, through the organization of stakeholders awareness and participation activities and the design of communication and coordination mechanisms between them.
