IHCANTABRIA PRESENTS THE NEW PORT MODELLING SYSTEM (SMP) IN THE 7TH NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE SPANISH PIANC SECTION (ATPYC) IN SEVILLA

In October 2018 the Spanish National Section of PIANC (Technical Association of Ports and Coasts, ATPYC) will organize the seventh edition of its National Congress in Seville. This event that has consolidated as a reference meeting among the Spanish technical community in the port and coastal sector, as shown by the great interest it attracts among professionals, both in terms of the number of attendees as well as the quantity and quality of the summaries presented in the paper selection process.

In this congress, the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria), will present a new tool for port design called Port Modelling System (SMP). The presentation will take place during the 6th session of the congress, on 19 October at 12:50 pm. IHCantabria will be represented by Antonio Tomas Sampedro and Gabriel Díaz Hernández, from the Hydrodynamics and Coastal Infrastructures Group.

The SMP has been developed thanks to the co-financed aid by the European Regional Development Fund through the ERDF 2014-2020 Operational Programme of Cantabria through the INNOVA 2016 grant line. It brings together in a single tool different technical knowledge, advanced numerical models and methodologies of special interest for the design of port infrastructures within the regulatory framework of reference in Spain, the Recommendations for Maritime Works (ROM, Ports of Spain). In this way, IHCantabria makes available to all agents involved in port management and operation (administration, consultancies and construction companies) a common tool within the regulatory framework of the ROM.
