IHCantabria will collaborate with the Romanian Government in the modernization of the agricultural irrigation system

DSC 9787The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania and the Hydraulic Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria) agreed to exchange information in the framework of future collaboration agreements to address the development of the "ambitious" agricultural irrigation plan launched by the Government Romanian, in which in the next four years, the Romanian state will invest 1,000 million euros in modernizing the state irrigation system.

The delegation of Romania, made up of senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, accompanied by Iulia Schnecker, head of the Commercial Office of the Embassy in Spain, met at the IHCantabria headquarters with the director of the Institute, Raul Medina, And the technicians who carry out water project projects. The meeting was also attended by the CEO of Sodercan, Salvador Blanco.

The visit of the Romanian delegation is part of the agreements to maintain information flows and collaboration between the institutions of Romania, Sodercan and IHCantabria, materialized during the visit to Romania by Raúl Medina and the  Sodercan International Director, Victor Gijón. in October of last year.

DSC 9810Rumanía faces a renovation process of its infrastructures for which it has an intense community aid. One of the most pressing problems, to which the Government has given absolute priority, is the obsolete and in many cases inefficient state irrigation network, designed for large farms, which does not correspond to the current reality of the sector.

The modernization of these structures and their adaptation to the new needs of today's farms is a challenge not only economic but also technical. It is in this second aspect that the IHC is able to contribute its extensive experience in the study and treatment of water. The collaboration between IHCantabria and the Romanian authorities will materialize in the coming weeks.
